When my friend Genevieve Salerno mentioned that she held Ward Stone as one of her heroes on the level of Johnny Cash, I called up Ward and made plans to take her up to visit him at the State Wildlife Pathology Unit, which he heads. I know Ward from my work on the PCB and dioxin issue at SUNY New Paltz. Ward, who first discovered that PCB transformers were leaking and contaminating the earth at the base of utility poles, remains one of New York State's unrelenting environmental advocates.
