Monitor well outside Bliss Residence Hall at SUNY-New Paltz. On Dec. 29, 1991, a PCB transformer exploded in the building, spreading dioxins throughout the structure, including the heating and ventilation systems, and also deep into the ground. This is the cover of a well used by engineers to monitor the spread of the underground contamination plume in groundwater. More details at this link. Photo by Eric Francis.
