March 27, 2006 | Different SeasonThe hammer of the gods PERHAPS it's a miracle, or maybe just the American people showing a pulse after half a decade of atrocities by their government -- but there were massive protests in western cities this week, aimed at legislation passed by the House of Representatives that would make it a felony for an immigrant to be in the United States illegally. It was one of the largest demonstrations in Los Angeles in years, with official estimates of 500,000 citizens pouring into the streets, and this was bolstered by protests of more than 50,000 in Phoenix and 10,000 in Dallas -- neither city being a gay marriage granola stronghold. Pretty encouraging developments as the Aries Point eclipse approaches on Wednesday. In addition, Paris is set to explode into a new round of protests this week, and the country seems on the verge of a national strike designed to stop the government from taking away employment rights from youth under the age of 26. I would be reluctant to be too enthusiastic about these developments -- since the amazing F-15 protests of 2003 fizzled out in about five minutes -- however, coming as these are with astrological developments that raise the energy level and start a whole new cycle of experience, that's another story entirely. Indeed, this week's total solar eclipse is the answer to the June 21, 2001 total solar eclipse that gave us the Sept. 11 attacks and the military coup that allowed for the takeover of the U.S. government by the Neocon cabal. Remember this in case you're wondering if eclipses mean anything. What that eclipse had going for it was precision -- it was on the first day of summer, four days into summer. And if you're a creep, you would want to capitalize on an eclipse in a water sign because you can keep things quiet longer. What this one has going for it is Aries, which can't keep nothin' quiet. And it's close enough to the first day of spring to count solidly as Aries Point territory, which is astrology shorthand for "full throttle" or as I call it, The Personal is Political. The Sun's cycle is building, as the days are growing longer here in the north. And while Cancer lacks no energy, Aries is the ignition key to the physical plane. If wanted to summon some energy, I would pick a fire sign any day. Imagine for a moment that every person who was at one of these marches represents five people who were aware of the issue, or wish they could be there. It may actually be more than that. Note that this was also the first time there were mass protests in the United States since the Republican National Committee met in the summer of 2004. Those were impressive, but mainly local to New York City. And they, too, were smothered out by the utterly depressing loss of the election to Bush and the Neocons. Today, we are in a different season. There have been three bitter and disgusting years of war, with a mounting death toll on both sides, and an outrageous price tag that our grandchildren will still be paying off. Congress, thanks to the revelations of Jack Abramoff, makes the pigs at the trough metaphor seem quaint. Today, the lies are transparent and anger is starting to ferment. And we can be sure that a lot of people have been holding in a lot of that anger for a long time. I'll tell ya, when that's the case, there are few things more fun than parading around the streets on a spring day drumming, bashing pots and pans or screaming your head off.
