March 25, 2006 | Oil Drilling in the Grand Canyon? EVERY NOW AND THEN I read something that explains it all. But not so often. Maybe once every 20 years. I read something yesterday that fit that description, which was distributed by Jude to Political Waves, so maybe you read it. The article, from Rolling Stone, is called "How To Be a Lobbyist Without Really Trying." It explains, in one article, what condition Congress is in; why they do not actually do anything; why they don't act on any issues; why nothing seems to matter. Well, it's all a game of pretend. And there seems to be no limit to how far you can push it. Yet to say that this is just about Congress or the political community would be to miss the point. We live in a society that facilitates and supports precisely this kind of thing. Getting out of it is not going to involve changing a government, it's going to involve reconsidering how we relate to one another, and taking a step out of our fantasies into reality. Here's a glimpse into a creepy world, but I don't think I've laughed so hard reading an article in months on end. http://snipurl.com/o4j5 | ||||||
