The Andromeda Galaxy, catalogued as M31 and NGC 224, is our mirror in space. Our Sun is part of a galaxy much like Andromeda, which is our closest neighbor and the largest member of what is called the Local Group of galaxies. It is believed that Andromeda and the Milky Way will eventually merge into one galaxy. One Web site has called it the Rodney Dangerfield of space objects. More information is available at the Astronomy Picture of the Day site. Photo by Jason Ware, Galaxyphoto
