Planet Waves for July 2005

By ERIC FRANCIS

Aries (March 20-April 19)
All the planetary aspects of any consequence this month, and there are quite a few, are related to where your creative life meets your professional life. The story goes like this. For no apparent reason, begin to take certain things you love to do seriously. You find yourself being disciplined where once you were impatient; focused where once you were just overflowing with energy. You ground in your creative process, you become oblivious to distractions, and you bear down on your creative talents. Then, at the same time, you notice that you're doing something highly original which, oddly, finds a place and a need in the larger community. That place begins to open for you, you discover that you're more respected for your talents than you ever dreamed, and the next thing you know, you're into certain career advances you normally would deem impossible.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
There have been a number of occasions in recent months on which achievement and accomplishment have called your name personally, but where you were not willing to make the sacrifices for success. In a little while, the things you thought you had to give up will no longer feel like losses. Perhaps they involved your living space or geographic location. Perhaps they involved commitment to your family. Perhaps they involved some personal insecurity or emotional crisis. The events of this month will remove your reasons for fear and insecurity, presenting you with the dilemma of freedom. That is, if you discover you can do anything you want, what exactly would you do? You may want to stand back and observe yourself, or you may want to make decisions without considering the consequences. At this point, even doing nothing represents concrete action, so you might as well do what you please.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Opportunities that seem to open up easily for others may not open up as easily for you. But don't be fooled; you're not on anyone's path but your own, and your own is pretty unique at the moment. I take it that you're reconsidering a major decision that once seemed to be plain and easy, or based on incontrovertible facts. New information has entered the picture, and it's having a sobering effect on you. Just do yourself a favor: don't decide anything too soon, and don't take any of this too seriously. Reconsidering is not, in itself, a decision. And you're not necessarily being put in a position where you need to retreat, though it may seem that way. What is happening is that you're experiencing a series of life callings in their two aspects: challenges, and as opportunities to negotiate your fate. It's true: fate is often a matter of agreement between two people. In your case, just make sure it's someone you agree with.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Not everyone can carry the weight of the world, and in many respects it seems that's what you've been doing for quite some time now. But how much of that heaviness was in you, rather than resting on your shoulders as some outside force? That's a good question; the answer is, some of it. If personal responsibility is lifted off you from the outside, you also need to let it go from the inside. You will feel better the moment you allow yourself to live your life for the factors that are important to you, and nothing else. You don't have to worry about going on an egotistical rampage; what is important to you will work just fine for the world and for the people around you. Indeed, it's more about relationships than you may have imagined, but remember: you don't have to make this decision on a committee basis.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
So it begins, my little Leo. But as one born under the sign of the cat, you need not fear the influence of the mighty Saturn, because your ruling planet is the very Sun himself, source of all light and all life. Saturn taking its place in your birth sign for the next two years will help you make your world a more solid place. By now, I'm sure you've been feeling the process begin: plans taking on tangible form, decisions that were once cloaked in fog feeling much more tangible, and you having a sense of yourself that stands outside your fears, your needs and the consequences of what lives in your secret world. This is a time of rebirth and recreation; a time of summoning yourself to your highest mission; a moment of truth. And if you want more out of life than that, now is the time to go for it.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
You're in the process of a quick change of costume, or potentially an unexpected change of identity. You now get to put away an entire dimension of who you thought you were, and bring out someone you have long wanted to be. I suggest you indulge in the pleasure of this, and also in the pleasure of finally facing your worst fears. I mean, if you're going to bother to confront that which scares you, it might as well be what scares you most. You're in a rather fortunate position, as compared to those born in the other 11 signs of the zodiac: that state which is the most disturbing to you is precisely the position in which you are strongest. The true revolution of the moment is having arrived in the space where no one and nothing outside yourself has the power to tell you who you are.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
When the rewards for all your hard work the past couple of years arrive, they're unlikely to be quite what you were expecting. Often, the personal benefit of being in service is the opportunity to be of even greater service. So get used to it. Is this not exactly what you've been asking the universe for? What's worth noting is that you're being called upon to help in ways that only you can. You've built a reputation, to a great extent, on this fact alone. Success is no longer a matter of whether you fit in; it's a matter of being entirely willing to play your precise role on the great stage of life. As such, you can indulge fully in the experience; you can take every advantage that comes to you; you can afford to take a few risks, make
a few mistakes, and be a bit wild. Please.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
You will need to balance being exceedingly sensitive to your environment with the clear calling to take charge. You've reached a stage of your maturity and growth when you can trust that you will do the right thing. If you've taken on the Scorpio reputation for dicey ethics, it's time to drop that false burden and begin exercising the power that you've gained. The fact that you've become so emotionally sensitive, particularly to the issue of group consensus, is truly an asset, but in the end, you must make each and every one of your own decisions. There will be times when you agree with what those around you have to say; there will be times when you don't agree at all, and you'll have to make your choices and stand alone. You are strong enough, you're smart enough, and, simply stated, it is time.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
You may feel like the universe has put the kibosh on your most valued long term plans, but don't fall for it. You may also feel like you're being subjected to a test of faith, but please don't fall for that, either. What's happening is that your way is narrowing; you've reached a time when you must walk the straight path rather than going whatever way you choose at whatever time you feel like it. This may take a little getting used to for your Sagittarian spirit, but I feel confident that before long, you'll appreciate the discipline, the sense of focus, and the sober awareness that you must rise to the occasion of your own life. In this world, freedom is a right, but often it turns out that actually exercising freedom is a privilege. Such is reserved for those who recognize that faith is an act of courage.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
This month brings the second consecutive Full Moon in your birth sign, called a Blue Moon. As well, Saturn, your ruling planet, finally changes signs from Cancer to Leo. And Chiron, the planet of healing, awareness and standing apart from the crowd, begins a brief return to your sign, where it has spent much of the past four years. These are all rare developments, and they portend unusual opportunities and what you might call highly original changes. It's about time, isn't it? While Capricorns have a reputation for being the boss, you know you're a lot more sensitive than you let on, even to the point of being sentimental. Now is the time to relate to others from your soft inner core, and to take a chance and see what it feels like to be absolutely real -- more real than you or any of your peers would ever consider being. This is called opening up to love.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Imagine that at the moment, it's the dry season, and you know you have to put a new roof on your home before the seasonal rains come. It's going to take some work, but you have time to organize the project, and a bit of excess energy on your hands. And as an Aquarian, you have a natural skill for getting many hands involved, and creating an orderly, logical effort that actually functions in a spirit of cooperation. Despite much other activity in your life, I don't suggest you delay; I suggest you begin now, even before you need to. It's likely that once you begin, you'll see other projects that need to happen, and you're going to pick up the rhythm of accomplishment. Just remember to stick to your central agenda, and to get done now what is both necessary to do now, and what can only be done at this time.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
In the coming months, and indeed the coming years, you must carefully balance work priorities with health priorities. As a Pisces, you're blessed with natural vitality and also with an abundance of energy when it comes to the tasks of life. Saturn's forthcoming ingress to your 6th solar house suggests a time of focus as well as a time of increased responsibility. You're going to need to help yourself by staying in balance, keeping a pace you can live with, and making sure that your role in the world out there is consistent with the real
person you are in your inner world. You've learned a lot about making sure that responsibility does not entirely dominate your life, and Saturn's recent lessons have included the absolute necessity that you enjoy existence. Now, you need to enjoy your work, and have a great time taking care of yourself.
