Inner Space

Inner Space for July 2005

Events surrounding the summer solstice and Capricorn Full Moon are still ringing in history and in our lives. What we witnessed or experienced (probably both) was a peak moment in the history of the early 21st century, closely associated with much of the personal change and political madness of the past five years. We are now on the verge of another critical turning point: Saturn entering Leo and opposing Chiron. By the time of the breakthroughs and revelations of the Cancer New Moon on July 6, there’s already plenty going on in Leo -- particularly a magnificently aspected Mercury-Venus conjunction. But we’re still in the last two weeks of Saturn in Cancer, at the extreme end of this important two-year process. Endings of cycles are important moments to pay close attention to developments, because they can arrive with factors that affect everything we’ve worked for in the past. With this New Moon occurring in the same sign as Saturn -- Cancer, the sign of family, hearth and home -- it’s a good time to tend to affairs relating to your most personal matters, take one gradual step at a time, and move clearly and steadily toward Saturn’s momentous sign change on July 16. Many more details about this event on PlanetWaves.net.

Aries (March 20-April 19)
Approaching changes may seem to hem in your desire to be a freewheeling Aries. But what has the power to hamper or delay your creative expression also offers the most positive influences. You’ll find solutions in such time-tested methods as setting priorities, working within limits, and making sure you have a concrete agenda when it comes to living the life you want. It’s not going to happen by accident and it’s not going to happen accidentally. But as long as you’re willing to make a small, consistent effort over time, you’ll build just the situation you want and need.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
A profound sense of movement is about to enter your life: movement that may affect you geographically; is likely to affect your views and values; and most important, is certain to affect your home and emotional life. As Einstein said, God does not play dice with the universe. The more radical the shift, the more important it is. The less your life has changed over the past couple years, the more these changes will benefit you. The issue may be keeping a positive attitude in the short term, but if you’re realistic and keep your highest priorities in mind, you will see the benefits immediately.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
Whatever changes you’ve made recently, they point toward some highly unusual success. That success may be present in your life as a potential or an idea right now, but when Saturn changes signs later in the month, you will have an opportunity to transform this into something genuinely tangible. You are one who often derives your whole sense of value or worth from the place you call home, but what happens next takes you beyond your past reality and clears the way for something new, something wider and genuinely different than anything you’ve ever experienced.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Events this month remind me a little of getting a cast taken off your life. You’re about to see how much restriction you’ve lived with, and why. I suspect you’ll gain a sense of how the boundaries that have surrounded your life have shaped you and, in a sense, ensured that during a formative time there were only so many changes you could make. The most positive benefit of everything you’ve been through is that you’ve become a self-contained individual. It has not diminished your compassion -- but now you know where the world ends and you begin. Which is a very good thing to know.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
If you follow astrology, you’ve probably been pondering Saturn’s ingress to Leo, which happens this month and lasts for more than two years. Few astrologers will admit that Saturn is a planet of surprises. So there is little use predicting what will happen as a result of this development, except to say that your life will change; and that you will experience a series of events designed to help you find your proper place in a world where it’s nearly impossible to know exactly what to do in the long run. Yet Saturn is a planet that takes the long view. So while you cannot predict, you can certainly make an agenda.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Are you scheming some kind of long distance move? But at the same time, do you feel stuck in a kind of personality pattern from which you can’t quite break free? There is a rather meaningful relationship between where we live and who we are. There are certain critical personality changes that really can develop only if you redevelop yourself in another community. In any case, the emphasis now shifts toward clearing away old patterns. Any metaphor for doing so, from clearing closets to painting walls to wearing different clothes, will benefit you.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
There’s an inside-out quality to your charts: Something that is typically personal, interior, and occurs behind closed doors soon becomes a matter you’re willing to address among friends. You could say that “the world becomes your home” in a much more distinctive way than it ever has in the past; you would do well to cultivate the feeling of being at home, comfortable with yourself, and secure in your role, everywhere and anywhere. With this comes the ever-strengthening sense that nobody can do what you do or be who you are. So you might as well be you at full strength.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
It’s difficult to assess which area of your life will take greater precedence in the coming seasons: your work or your home. It might be best to think of them as one process or combined subject. Are you at home in your work? Is your home a place where you’re expected to labor unreasonably hard? Can you integrate your business affairs and your inner emotional growth in a way that’s more comfortable than you have done it in the past, and conducive to progress rather than resistance? Surely, from this point onward, one cannot come at the expense of the other.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
The point at which you break free is where you recognize that your interests are not separate from someone else’s -- a lover or domestic partner who is inclined to put their own needs last, which feeds a kind of perpetual motion machine in your life. You could short-circuit the whole process, that is, free yourself from a pattern that you don’t really want or need, by investing what may feel like undue energy into understanding where this person is coming from. It may feel strange to you at first, but be assured it will feel stranger to the other person, who is not used to getting this much attention, from you or anyone.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
The world may suddenly seem to change around you. You may not be actively involved in negotiating specific developments, but the background environment, the emotional tone, and perhaps the physical settings of your life are about to go through a kind of metamorphosis that will help you see the world, and yourself, in a different light. While certain people may decide it’s time to drive a hard bargain, the logical response is to meet the world on equal terms. If you want to do that, remember: You already know everything you need to know.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Suddenly, you may be feeling a necessity to take your personal relationships much more seriously. But I would warn you about taking them too seriously. To value them would be a better approach; to appreciate them in small ways, better still. Recognize that everything in life -- with very rare exceptions -- is a matter of an option, or at least a choice. In the long run, the only thing that can feed a happy relationship is personal happiness, and this is finally an option you have available to you. But options call for decisions, and this is nothing if not a time when deciding is the primary task at hand.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
The changes are not over, but I suggest you ride them out, because they’re likely to get you exactly where you need to be. Money does not need to be a factor in your living space; it’s all about preference, so I suggest you pay attention to what you want, to what nourishes you, and to where you feel loved best. Unusual events around midmonth will put you in the position of being the solution to a complex set of problems, but without having to rescue anyone. So do something brave for a Pisces -- forget guilt. You don’t need it, and it does not need you.
