Inner Space

Inner Space for May 2005

After the stirring, moving or shocking events of April, the astrology of May is going to feel pretty serene. The events of the past four or five weeks may still be working themselves out, but by now the overall trend should be obvious. By May 8, the Taurus New Moon, the past should be well behind us and the adventures of spring well under way. Speaking of spring, remember to stop by the Stone Mountain Farm for Beltane -- check Chronogram for the exact date.

Aries (March 20-April 19)
It's a different world when you feel good, is it not? That sense of belonging anywhere is just an extension of feeling like you belong in your own body. Home is an extension of your own body, as is anyplace you happen to find yourself. Then there is the psychic layer. A lot more is going on there than in the physical world, and what I suggest you do is use your body level of comfort and fulfillment to anchor yourself into physical reality, so that the extraordinary developments that are percolating in through your dreams, visions and ideas arrive in a welcoming environment.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)
Listen for signals that you need to be in a different space. Feel where you are. Pay attention to how you use the physical world around you. Sense its dimensions, sense your specific needs, and pay attention to your surroundings. What is most important is that you are the one who makes the decisions about what is useful, appropriate and comfortable. It is likely that some time this year you're going to need a change of some kind, and these changes require planning. If this is true, you're likely getting the signals now. They are there for only your benefit.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)
The mind and the shapes it takes have a curious relationship to the physical world and the space it takes. Dreams of extra rooms or extra wings in our houses are particularly beautiful examples of this. We use our physical space as a psychic container. There come times when our minds expand and our spaces must follow. There are other times when we may find ourselves in confined circumstances and use our psychic gifts to get a sense of relief or to feel the larger possibilities of who we are. But where mind and space are concerned, now is a fine season to study the many relationships.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)
That beautiful line from the Fleetwood Mac song Sarah comes to mind: "When you build your house, then call me home." It is about a sense of contact with another so strong that it has nothing to do with what we think of reality. This experience comes from you. Saturn in your birth sign since the summer of 2003 has done nothing if not open up your inner reaches, and taught you that all potential ultimately comes from inside you. The world is merely a place where you express yourself. And while the possibilities for doing so are rarely perfect, they are sometimes more perfect than others.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)
There is something in your charts this month about the relationship between your work space and your living space. The two need to be perfectly compatible. I once visited the home of a literary agent who had designed her kitchen to flow seamlessly into her office, which struck me instantly as a tribute to those of us who do a lot of our best work at the kitchen table. What impressed me was how well it was done, and how in its place everything seemed. This is a good model for how your use of private time and working time inter-relate. A truly harmonious relationship is possible.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
We could tell much of your life story in a book called A Sense of Place. I have never seen a description of Virgo that makes any mention of being a restless wanderer looking for your true home, but there's a lot of truth to that statement in terms of your own life. Your mind is reaching to far away places, and they are very likely reaching back. Sooner rather than later is a wholesome time for successful travel, in part because you've rarely felt so at home right where you are now. And if, perchance, that happens not to be true, this is an excellent time to go searching. Home may feel a lot more like home when you return.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)
Grounding used to be a lot more important to you. But then maybe you realized that your parents (but particularly your father) were slaves to fears that have no impact on your life. That took time, but it was not time wasted. Clarity and freedom from the past are never wasted, and they are always excellent conditions to focus your energy on creativity, which is truly a privilege of those who feel safe on the planet, or who know that they have nothing to lose. You can decide which camp you're in, but in reality they amount to the same thing.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
There is no limit to the depths of your devotion or calling in a particular relationship. It's fair to say that you're totally involved if you're involved at all. So you might as well go there. If there is an invitation to a live-in situation, this just might be the time, the person and the place. Your body should be telling you exactly what you need to know to make up your mind. In a similar sense, it may be time to get free of something you would never have dreamed you would be making an escape from. In a perfect world, you would do both in one gesture.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
False ideas about security and illusions of commitment and boundaries are about to start blowing up like it was Chinese New Year. I suggest you welcome this process and be clear with yourself about the way it's likely to key into your sense of adventure and embracing the unknown. Stability and adventure rarely go together, but a state of equilibrium is possible. That would best be attained by creating an atmosphere in your home where honesty is both possible and welcomed openly.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
You are a feeler by nature, and the way you express yourself must be connected to your emotions. Part of how you can do that is by treating your living space as an art project -- as something deeply personal that reflects your inner reality, values and ideas, rather than just your tastes. The essence of what I suggest you go for is the feeling of being free to feel and express how you feel and who you are becoming in some tangible way. It's often remarkable how our space can limit us. It can just as easily be a vehicle to freedom.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Aquarius is a sign known for its dedication to service, and this month will prove to be no exception. There is a high calling you are being summoned to fulfill, and it is an extraordinarily personal expression of your values in the larger world. Often people are uncomfortable being so real and at the same time being so involved with so many others, but that appears to be the size of things. Just remember to keep a small place for yourself in the midst of what you are doing and what you are offering so selflessly.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
This promises to be a month of extraordinary and perhaps unexpected developments, but after the intensity with which you've recently been compelled to reconsider what is important to you, and the depth at which you've become committed to your own cause, change can only do you good. Remember that what is changing is not your circumstances; you are changing and your world is reflecting those developments. There are other ways to live, but not so many ways to live so fully and authentically. So feel free to surprise yourself.
