Inner Space

Inner Space Decoroscope for January 2005

Concentrated activity across Sagittarius, Capricorn and Aquarius shifts the focus to the community and collective life rather than the private space we tend to cling to at any cost. Yet events of this month promise to remind us that the world is our home, the big living room we all share. It's too bad we don't see it that way -- we might be more inclined to respect the people we share this planet with as members of a family that we must take care of, and that we can depend on when we are in need. As winter and spring progress, though, the big surprise will be a revolution in this aspect of life. It will become obvious -- perhaps painfully so -- that unless we get together to solve certain key problems, they will never be solved. Yet the pleasant surprise will be how much fun this is when we finally get it together and remember that we're all in this life together.

Aries (March 20-April 19)

You've been attempting a clean sweep of your emotional affairs for a long time now, and have almost succeeded. What you must come to terms with is that no matter how many times you run the broom across the floor, it's still going to get dusty again. And however many walls you put up between yourself and annoying relatives who seem determined to throw a wet blanket on your warmth and comfort, you need a functioning door through which you can come and go. These days, you had best spend some time on the outside of that door, because the professional opportunity you've been waiting for is not going to come visiting -- you have to go get it, and you can.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)

Your ethics and integrity are starting to pay dividends. Those who will attempt to get their way regardless of the impact on others around them are going for the quick profit, and they know it. This is not your style. However, you really need to resist the temptation to explain yourself to those who have neither the desire nor the capacity to understand your true feelings or your true self. Your real family is your family of spirit, and your true home is anyplace in this world where people have a similar vision of what is right and wrong -- and what to do about it.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)

Mercury's recent retrograde in your opposite sign, Sagittarius, has done little to support your peace and tranquility. Yet you can be sure it's offered a few custom lessons in how to get beyond the games that others play so easily with your mind and feelings. Certain people you know insist on living their lives in what seems like an entirely selfish way. However, their refusal to be tied down to a particular set of rules and regulations is more than a game, and it's an example you can benefit from immensely. The last thing you want right now is any kind of false stability or imposed structure. Neither will withstand even the meekest puff of wind.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

There seems to be little in your most private life that does not stroke with one hand while it threatens to strike with the other. But you must be careful about harboring expectations that all forms of pleasure bring pain. You now stand a very good chance of turning over a new leaf in your closest partnerships and emotional attachments, but that will come with the price of vigilance about the details of your relationships. The theme of the coming year is all about letting go of old emotional patterns, particularly your stress-inducing habit of responding to everyone as if they were your mother or father.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)

You know by now that the thorough and determined approach you've taken to correcting certain long-standing problems in your home and domestic life has been worth every bit of effort. Now you need to continue paying attention to the root causes of unhappiness. Remember that most emotional struggles are unnecessary, and are generally a hand-me-down from previous generations who had neither the awareness nor the enlightenment that have miraculously blessed your life. The very fact that you can see the difficulties of your predecessors is evidence that you have the power to solve your own problems.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)

Emotionally and domestically, this has been another one of those challenging spells, and once again you've come through with your soul intact. Yet you may be wondering whether you are really getting at the deeper layers that seem to underlie the challenges that resurface in your life every couple of months. I don't think there is a permanent solution. But it would help considerably if you devoted more energy to clearing the emotional mines and pre-empting unruly situations within your home and family during those times when life is relatively calm. This way, it's more likely to stay that way.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)

Many Libras have been complaining that life seems like an endless series of traumas lately. I would say that it's been an endless series of adjustments. It is precisely the fact that you have such strong foundations and such a powerful survival instinct that makes change so difficult for you. And particularly where your home life is concerned, the least threat of instability is almost unbearable. The approaching New Moon in Capricorn, the angle of your chart associated with your security base and headquarters, will help you land on your feet. You owe yourself a good laugh for ever thinking you wouldn't.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)

Over the next few months, a series of radical changes sweeps through your life. These developments will help you make sense of the many sacrifices and losses you've experienced in recent months and years. You are the modern master of turning emotional uncertainty into determination, though some people may be annoyed that this process seems to take you forever and six Sundays. At least you get there eventually. And get there is exactly what's about to happen -- though what you finally leave behind will surprise you; and how much this contributes to your sanity, stability and emotional growth will surprise you even more.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

You're about to get your way. Now all you need to do is make sure this works to your advantage. You're actually in such a strong position that the risk you run is an outcome where you make no compromises at all. While it may seem that you can afford to do that, you cannot afford the resentment this will breed. So, at the end of the game, go around the kitchen table and ask everyone what it is they need out of the deal, and do your best to accommodate everyone. Now that you are in a position of power, you must set an example of true community spirit.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)

Luck is going to get you pretty far this year, but awareness is going to get you even further. You have accomplished a great deal in the way of acknowledging, down to the last detail, exactly what it is that you feel. You need to maintain this intimate inner relationship, particularly with your fears, because that's the only way they're not going to get the better of you. It's clear that you've begun the process of securing your long-term stability and security on the physical level, but these are worth nothing if you don't have a safe space to retreat to in your heart.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)

Yours is a sign of the zodiac associated with long delays in personal fulfillment, as well as a strange sense of discomfort in this world. This condition involves the knowledge you possess about how good life really can be, as well as the many ways in which your idealistic nature finds little validation in the world of greed and glamour. Now you are about to come into your own and command the respect that you deserve in the world of adults. Just remember that you are a child at heart, and that your home and other private spaces need to cater to that child's whims and desires. Success is success; that is happiness.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Given the speed with which certain matters are about to progress in your life -- particularly on the professional front -- you will need to adapt the art of being at home wherever you are, and no matter what you are doing. This is something of a politician's art: being so comfortable in your own skin that, in turn, everyone else feels unusually cozy and warm around you. Part of how you're going to do that is by learning to speak other people's language. Listen to them in their own words, and talk to them in terms they understand. The whole world really is your home, and your home is waiting.
