Inner Space

Inner Space Decoroscope for December 2004

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Miracles can happen in any room, but you will notice them most vividly in the bedroom. Clear away everything old. Clean down to the floors. Invest in, re-allocate, or otherwise manifest the finest electronics: a real television monitor, sound system, Internet connection and video camera. This space becomes the fertile field of mind, a kind of dream machine, where the rich currents of your imagination will have room to create, to roam the ethers, and to share your ideas and art with others. Since everything begins as thought, make a sign that says Imagination is the Root of All Reality. Hang it on your mirror. Remember, when all is said and done, the only thing you can create is yourself. And the way you're most likely to do this is with pleasure.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)

It is true that Taurans love comfort and stuff, but you need an environment that meets perfectly the image of a clean, well-lighted place. I strongly suggest arranging the furniture and equipment in a way that makes you feel important, ensuring that you make space for a second person to work and assist you without interrupting your own work flow. Invest in an excellent telephone and headset, and arrange the best international calling plan you can find. You will be needing these things. If you're not getting the message already, your career is about to take off, but you're the one who's going to make it happen. Decorations must be exclusively images of, or cultural items from, your favorite three countries.

Gemini (May 20-June 21)

Ideally, your home would be like a theatre: a large, functional space with a lot of hidden storage, which you could entirely redecorate on a moment's notice. In the morning, you could have the most magnificent sitting room; that night, a dance hall; the next day, a meeting room, later that night, a meditation center. This may not be entirely practical; however, you can borrow from the idea. The goal is to make your space subject to the whims of your imagination to the greatest degree possible. Decorations, art and furniture should be movable, and try to get away from a concept of fixed décor. You are a Gemini, and your world needs to change as fast as your mind.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Whatever style you choose to live in, there is one word that comes to mind: improvement. This is the year that you will make the greatest strides in improving your home space, and perhaps acquire real estate for the first time. Of all the signs of the zodiac, you need beauty around you the very most -- you are the most introspective sign, your space is an extension of your body, and you are highly sensitive to your environment. The most important space in your home should be a healing and meditation room, where nobody lives, but where anyone can find peace, solace and wisdom. I suggest that the space be nearly empty. This room should have one small bookshelf with a carefully selected collection.

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23)

Since one of the most important things likely to be on your agenda this year will be reading, writing and other intellectual pursuits, I suggest you create a study. This can be a room or part of a room that is distinctly dedicated to enriching your mind. I suggest that it not be the part of the house where your computer is located. Rather, make it a bit old fashioned, with a wood table, notebooks, stationery and some old editions. The tone of the space needs to be designed to slow down your mind rather than speed it up. Plenty is moving in your life at an above-average speed, while at the same time you are being drawn deep into your own thoughts like never before. This is actually an excellent combination.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)

There's so much coming at you from the outside -- interesting people, offers from those people, involvement in groups, encounters with strange circumstances and so much else -- that you need a sanctuary. Work on the living room. Soft is the word; Earth tones are the color scheme. Do anything to enhance natural light -- clear and clean the windows, get rid of the drapes and put in something lightweight, and get a nice high-powered air filter. Make a space where you can breathe and where you can hear your own thoughts. I suggest that there be two categories of people in your life, at least for a while: those you feel good about inviting in, and those you're not quite ready to invite. Just make sure you spend time there yourself.

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23)

You've come a long way on the journey to feeling good about yourself. Recreate any decorating you did in the past year. That was such a powerful transition time, but it came at a moment of great vulnerability. Now, you're getting used to the fact that you have a place in the world. You have earned that place. Decorate your home with anything that reminds you of your success, including portfolio pieces, honors, awards, or publications: two or three such reminders of your achievements will suffice. Take down any prints that have been around a while and acquire one or two pieces of original artwork. There are brilliant artists in every community looking to sell their work reasonably. Support them; you are on the same road.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)

Go for sexy, whatever sexy means to you. Not that anyone actually has to tell this to Scorpio, but certain developments of the past two months have either given you something excellent to celebrate, or something deep within yourself to work out. Create the boudoir of your dreams; don't hold back on the texture or the imagery. Authentic erotic art is available -- be bold. One well-placed mirror says a lot. Invest in new linens or even a new bed, clearing away any lingering impressions of the past. The statement you are making to yourself is one of approval. This approval needs to soak into your flesh and blood, and into your heart and soul. It needs to pour from your dreams with one message: that you are beautiful.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Your living room, or any other group gathering space, will be the central focus of your life this year, and great benefit will come to you through the social gatherings you host in your home. So with the space, plan the events. You need the large kind of party rather than the small intimate one. Ask guests to bring nothing; serve food and drink as lavishly as you can. As for the space itself: it needs a touch of purple. You need a sublime sound system, and take great measures to import the appropriate music, probably by international artists. And it can be outdoors in the warm months, in a garden or courtyard. Apartment dwellers can look into the availability of common rooms, but it must be completely personalized for each event.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)

It's kind of like the question, what do you get a Capricorn for their birthday? The most important thing to do is not forget. The second most important thing to do is make it something they will remember, be it practical or a thing of beauty (rumor has it that Cappies like both in about equal measure). Following this logic, the most important thing you can do for yourself is make a major improvement in your home, rather than a superficial one. Something you'll notice and use and appreciate every day. You can make a solid change for a heck of a lot less than $25,000. It could be anything from a washer-dryer to ripping out a bad floor and putting in something that holds up your feet. Keep thanking yourself.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)

You need an art studio. Either that or a workshop. Or both. If one or the other, make sure the studio has some good tools and that the shop has some paints, clay and a camera. The more you work the artist or craftsman within you, the better about yourself you're going to feel. Aquarians are inventive by nature, and at the moment, you're sitting on a silver mine. Aquarians are also driven to a kind of freedom not spoken in the language of any other sign of the zodiac. This freedom is expressed few places on Earth except in making things with our own hands. Try this for a while and you'll embark on a path of solving some of the more pressing problems that you and the people around you face.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Have you moved house lately? Or cities? Or countries? Really, anything of this nature will do: some total recreation of your space and environment, to match the total recreation of your reality. If you're feeling restless, there are very good reasons. Very little about you remains from the person that you or others once knew. And you are experiencing this completely outrageous journey of recreating yourself about every six to eight hours, and few people can keep up with you. If you can't move, switch around the rooms in your house or apartment. Shift your perspective and keep the environment as unfamiliar as possible, to remind you that self-discovery never ends; it only begins. ++
